Agustin "Gus" Araya, CFA
Agustin "Gus" Araya is a Partner at Cordillera Investment Partners. Prior to founding Cordillera, Gus was a Partner at Makena Capital Management where he was responsible for Makena’s private and liquid Natural Resources investments in energy, power, mining, agriculture, timber, and commodities. Previously, he was also a member of Makena’s Private Equity team which was responsible for investments in venture capital, growth equity, and buyouts. Gus was also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to the formation of Makena, Gus was an Associate Director of Private Assets at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation where he worked on private equity, real estate, and natural resources investments. Prior to the Hewlett Foundation, Gus was a Product Manager at Intuit. Prior to Intuit, Gus worked at Horsley Bridge Partners, a private equity fund-of-funds, as an Analyst. Gus began his career at D.A. Campbell Company, a boutique research firm specializing in Latin American equities, as an Analyst. Gus holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Gus is a CFA charter holder.
Chris Heller is a Partner at Cordillera Investment Partners. Prior to founding Cordillera, Chris was a Partner at Makena Capital Management where he served as the Portfolio Manager responsible for two liquid endowment funds that invest across multiple asset classes including hedge funds, real estate, natural resources, equities and fixed income. In addition, Chris was a senior member of Makena’s Absolute Return investment team, where he focused on hedge fund investments across numerous strategies, including distressed credit, hedged equity, structured credit, specialty finance, macro and reinsurance. He was also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to the formation of Makena, Chris worked at the Stanford Management Company, where he focused on portfolio management and risk analysis as well as public equity investing. Prior to Stanford Management Company, Chris worked at Merrill Lynch in the Technology Investment Banking group in Palo Alto and in the Debt Capital Markets group in New York. Chris earned a BA in Economics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Ashley Marks is a Partner at Cordillera Investment Partners. Prior to founding Cordillera, Ashley was a Partner at Makena Capital Management where she was the Portfolio Manager responsible for a Makena private fund focused on distressed real estate credit and assets. She was also a senior member of Makena’s Real Estate investment team responsible for investments in office, multifamily, hotels, residential, industrial, real estate credit, and REITs. She was also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Prior to the formation of Makena, Ashley was an Associate at MacFarlane Partners, a real estate private equity firm in SanFrancisco. Prior to joining MacFarlane Partners, she worked at the Stanford Management Company where she focused on portfolio management and risk analytics as well as hedge fund investing. Ashley also served as an Analyst at Robertson Stephens in the Technology Investment Banking group. Ashley earned a BBA in Finance from University of Michigan and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Jessica Baron is the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer at Cordillera Investment Partners. Prior to joining Cordillera, Jessica was the Chief Financial Officer at Hercules Technology Growth Capital, an SEC Registered and NYSE listed company. Jessica led the treasury, finance, and accounting organization, which served all corporate and operational aspects of public reporting and accounting requirements. Jessica also played a key role in investor relations activities including participating in investor presentations and roadshows, as well as being the primary point of contact for sell side analysts and shareholder communications. Prior to her nine years at Hercules, Jessica was a Finance Business Manager at Cisco Systems. Prior to Cisco, Jessica was a Finance Manager at Levi Strauss and before that was a Finance Associate at Dominion Capital Management. Jessica began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where she worked in Audit and Consulting Financial Advisory Services. Jessica earned a BA in Human Biology and an MA in Sociology at Stanford University, and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a Certified Public Accountant. Jessica was the 1996 Stanford Pac-10 Athlete of the Year and was a member of the 1995-96 USA National Swim Team.
Taylor Kauer is an Investment Associate at Cordillera Investment Partners. Prior to joining Cordillera, Taylor held roles in corporate finance, financial planning and analysis, and accounting at Stryker Corporation. Prior to joining Stryker, Taylor worked for ERCI, an environmental consulting firm focused on managing and remediating environmental liabilities for clients in the energy and automotive industries. Taylor earned a BA in Economics and Environmental Studies from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
